New Crossover: The Swift Basecamp 3 Caravan

The Basecamp is a single axle caravan available in 2, 3 and 4 berth models, with each of them featuring an efficient interior layout making the best use of the available space without compromising on smartness and visual appeal. Seating, beds, bathroom, kitchen – the position of each and its integration into the overall layout has been very carefully thought through. In doing so, all versions of the Basecamp provide a comfortable caravan with the potential to function exceptionally well for couples or small families despite the compact size.

What does the Basecamp 3 offer?

For a start, though it is 5.59m in length, the Basecamp’s compact size and lighter weight mean it has an advantage over traditional caravans as it can easily be towed by smaller cars and is relatively simple to manoeuvre. This makes it a really convenient ‘getaway vehicle’ for those spontaneous romantic or family weekends away or those short breaks and longer holidays. Simply load up and go!

Sleeping Arrangements

The door of the Basecamp 3 is at the back of the unit, which offers an immediate advantage as this makes it much easier to load gear in and out – there’s no need to attempt turns half way through loading something large. The interior boasts a front double bed (6’6” x 4’3”) complete with comfortable Duvalay mattress, which folds away to become seating. The extra space created by this fold away capability offers an option for storage of larger items you’ll perhaps be taking with you on your travels – for example, your bikes. Floor mounted anchor points for bikes and other bulky items add extra versatility to the interior space. A single berth (5’10” x 2’0”) can be made up in the side dinette if necessary for your child or that extra guest staying over.

Home Comforts

The Basecamp 3 has central heating so is guaranteed to be cosy when you need it, and the large panoramic front window will allow you the best views of the beauty spots you park at. The caravan also features a dinette with sink (hot water), oven (hob and grill) plus undercounter fridge (with freezer compartment). Above the dinette side of the Basecamp 3 are a series of removable, zip canvas bags which offer a fun, casual and comfortable storage option entirely in keeping with the ‘get up and go’ aesthetic of the Basecamp series. Opposite the dinette are a wardrobe space and washroom. Completing the creature comfort features are a lightweight solar panel, door flyscreen, TV aerial and bracket, external shower, gas and electric points. It’s also possible to invest in an optional awning from Vango, which enhances the living space and turns this compact caravan into a real home from home – a feeling in common with all new Swift caravans!

Control and Security

The Basecamp 3 is fitted with both Swift Command and Command Tracker, features which allow you remote control of your caravan. With Swift command it is possible to monitor system levels (such as battery voltage, tank levels, temperatures and internal humidity) as well as enjoy control of external and internal lighting and the central heating system. Proactive vehicle tracking and theft monitoring are available when the optional tracking subscription is purchased.
